My plan right now is to re-assemble on video, so maybe this will be easier for anyone else trying in the future. I also got a email from izip today, they dont have key codes for my battery lock (Abus) but are sending replacements so I can drill out the old one. Im gonna say f*** it and toss this together in a bit. Its lubed, clean, and seems to engage most times, especially if I give it a fraction of tilt, which tolerances and the drivetrain should do fine. Sprags in the clutch show no major wear, and the bearing surface ins the gear shows some minor wear. Cranked up the heat, ran it for 20 min, checked, moved stuff around, repeat. I might have a bottle or 12 around here (we make parts for Jeeps here).Įarlier, I put the gear, shaft and clutch in an ultrasonic cleaner with some simple green and warm water. I was looking over some links a friend sent on another board, and the recommended oil from GMN USA bearings for their sprag clutches is "ATF-DEXRON III", AKA the only ATF one should ever, ever use on a Jeep Cherokee drivetrain. Think it would reasonable to eliminate the clutch from the design, if I cant find a replacement (or for eliminating a weak point)? Guessing the clutch is so the pedals are never moving faster than the motor? I cant see it spinning backwards, the crank already has a ratchet mech for reverse turning. So I doubt a replacement is readily available.ĭont have a bearing splitter handy, so Im stuck here. The tech ive been conversing with said her replaced those with spares from other motors. Here is the side where we saw before, sans gear and plate.Īnd here is the other side, complete with a sprag clutch that only grabs if you wiggle it around a bit. minute later, bearing plate is out! Pulled the small gear on one side, to reveal. Progress! I noticed the hole where the pinion gear stuck through had the drive gear showing in it, and also noticed it looked about the same size as the socket end of a 3/8 extension. So far Ive tried cleaning all of the electrical connections with deOx-it, but no luck. Not sure if there is another sensor for the pedals, but I was thinking that would be where the issue lies because the PO told me that it was fine until he hit a big pothole, and it stopped. Ive checked that the cadence magnet (back wheel) is near the sensor, and the speed shows on the screen. Cant seem to find any info on how to contact izip/raleigh on the phone, or if I can attach the bike to a PC to scan or update firmware.īiggest issue is the bike does not engage the motor, no matter the setting. I know bikes and motorcycles, but these are a new beast. Anyone have documentation on these codes? On the DP16 screen, when I power the battery on, it gives 3 messages, CU8Hb, 00202, 16F04. Good enough that even if the motor and controller were bad, it was worth it for the battery and bike. Last weekend I picked up a used izip mid drive bike for a really, really good price.
