![]() Turn around and ‘pick up’ the window, which is a block. When you approach the door, you’ll find that it’s too high to reach. From there, continue on to a window that leads to another white corridor. Go through it, into the white corridor and white room. Continue through here to find an Exit sign pointing to the next doorway. In the ring-shaped office with the many drawing cabinets and pages, look for a cabinet that’s away from the wall and casting a shadow on the wall. In the white corridor past the door, go straight onwards. Approach it, then continue on through the rain to the next doorway. Go past it and continue straight onwards to find a doorway in the distant mist. Head through the doorway, into the Reception room. In the next room, pick up the large black panel and set it aside to reveal a doorway. From here, proceed through the black gap in the floor, then the white gap in the floor, and then another black gap. Enter the dark door and then walk through to the doorway with the white frame. Wait for the tower to appear and approach it. This will cause a paradox in the doorway. Pick up the building block and walk through the neighboring corridor with it, through the door that the building block’s door leads to. If you make it larger and go through it, you’ll find that it leads to a doorway in the neighboring corridor. Pick up the second-to-right block of the building. I challenge anyone to give it try and not be impressed by its innovative mechanics or touched by its message. After you wake up, head over to the table with the small model building. Overall, Superliminal had me saying “Wow, what the hell just happened” more times than I care to admit. It’s very satisfying, thought provoking message for a video game. There’s some very nice music that accompanies it as well. Not only is there a very wholesome message about how important it is to look at all things from different perspectives, improving your outlook on life itself. ![]() Yes, I would likely be unhappy if I paid full price but playing it via Game Pass is a steal. Some may call it too short but it didn’t overstay its welcome for me. The game is what I would call, short and sweet. ![]() The narration throughout is done well and has some amusing pieces of dialogue. In fact, I was so hooked I played it all in one sitting. The plot of the story is simple enough but I desired to press on and see exactly how it would end up. It captures the non-sensical nature of dreams and nightmares perfectly. ![]() Still, you’ll feel like you’re within a dream. Just when you think you’ve wrapped your head around how it works, it throws the formula out the window.Ī part of me wishes that they had gone even bigger and done even more with it. The game constantly throws new and interesting ideas at you. This is mostly due to you not even considering what needs to be done as possible. The solution to most of the puzzles are painfully simple but you most likely won’t see the answer right away. However, the initial chapter acts as an in-depth tutorial that helps you get to grips with it all. It takes a little bit of time to come to an understanding of how the game and its mechanics work. I have never witnessed a video game pull off the use of optical illusions as well as this does, it truly messes with you. I have no idea how it was achieved but I’d love to see it used more often in other games. The ability to take certain objects and manipulate their size is an impressive mechanic. However, this game presents elements unlike I have seen before. Yes, we can all draw comparisons to Portal, The Turing Test etc. I’ve never in my life played a video game like Superliminal. Later areas of the game introduce new mechanics to this. The bulk of such interactions are based on the use of forced perspective. To reach the exit, the player can manipulate certain objects in the game world. The exit door may be closed and require a button to be held down to open. Most puzzles involve traversing through a series of rooms to reach their exits. ![]() This is an important mechanic in solving puzzles to complete the game. Certain objects can be moved towards or away from the player and scaled to the size as the player had viewed them. It incorporates gameplay elements around optical illusions and forced perspective. Superliminal is played from a first-person perspective. Guided by the voice of the study’s overseer, Dr. During the study, you become trapped in a recurring dream cycle. You’re the participant in a dream therapy program. Superliminal is a puzzle video game that was published and developed by Pillow Castle, releasing in 2020. ![]()
